Brain Drain
Reality - Infotainment
INTRODUCTION:
A recent study estimates that roughly 60,000 young people leave Italy every year and that 70% of them are graduates. In the last 20 years, Italian “brains” abroad have produced patents worth 4 billion Euros, after the Italian education system has spent a great deal of money in their training. In the rest of Europe and the United States, our talented young people find a world of opportunities, but in Italy this is not the case. However, some people still refuse to give up.
CONCEPT:
“CERVELLI IN FUGA – ANDATA E RITORNO” (BRAIN DRAIN – A TWO WAY TICKET”) is a TV programme which aims to portray the reality of these often highly specialized young professionals who, after many years abroad, try to come back to Italy and succeed in doing their jobs. They are doctors, engineers, researchers and many other types of professionals who live between Italy and abroad with the hope of creating the same professional conditions which they found outside their own country.
THE EPISODES:
In each episode we will learn about their professional lives, but also their private lives. The cameras will follow their various professional experiences both in Italy as well as abroad. An important part of the episode focuses on their private lives. We will meet their families and friends and learn about the difficulties they face in living between two countries. Looking straight into the camera, the characters and their loved ones narrate the various parts of the day. This programme is similar to both a reality show as well as “infotainment”.
